§ 28-2-1. Definitions.

  • For the purposes of this article, the following words and phrases shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them by this section:

    Branch stores shall mean a business establishment owned and operated by a plant or an independent agency at a location other than the principal location under the same trade name.

    Dry cleaning shall mean the process of removing dirt, grease, paint, spots, stains or any other form of foreign matter from wearing apparel or household furnishings, by any means other than washing with soap or detergent and water.

    Independent agency shall mean any business establishment or location where wearing apparel or household furnishings are received or collected to be sent for dry cleaning or laundering to any plant located either inside or outside the territorial limits of the city, but shall not include plant stores or branches, nor agencies not dealing with the general public.

    Independent driver shall mean any person engaged in the business of collecting or receiving from and delivering to customers and patrons, wearing apparel or household furnishings by means of a motor vehicle, whether at retail or wholesale.

    Laundering shall mean the process of removing dirt, grease, paint, spots, stains or any other form of foreign matter from wearing apparel or household furnishings, by means of washing with soap or detergent and water.

    Plant shall mean any business establishment or location where wearing apparel or household furnishings are dry cleaned or laundered on the premises.

    Plant stores or branch stores shall mean a business establishment operated in conjunction with a plant where wearing apparel or household furnishings are received or collected for dry cleaning or laundering at such plant under the same trade name.
