§ 39-4-6. Municipal parking lots; parking areas owned by city.

  • (a)

    It is the intention of the city to provide in parking areas under its jurisdiction, handicapper parking spaces in number to conform with the requirements of Section 2 of Public Act No. 1 of 1966 as amended [MCL 125.1352] and any regulations and/or guidelines issued under the statute.

    (b)

    Any resurfacing, repair, or new construction of municipal parking areas or structures erected subsequent to October 14, 1981, shall be maintained in compliance with the requirements of Michigan Building Codes as they relate to handicapper parking.

    (c)

    Where no barrier exists, parking spaces shall be located as close as possible to the main entrance. Where a curb or barrier exists between the parking lot and an accessible entrance, a curb cut or an inclined approach with a gradient of not more than one foot in twelve (12) feet and a width of not less than four (4) feet shall be provided for wheelchair access.
