§ 13-8-8. Death benefits—Prior to retirement of member.

Effective July 1, 1999, upon proof of the death of a member, prior to his or her retirement from City services, a death benefit in the amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) shall be paid to the person(s) who the member shall have nominated by written designation duly executed and filed with the board, provided further, that where no such designation has been made, then such benefit shall be paid to the member's legal representative.
